I don't think they are smart enough to be the new evil empire. It also makes me laugh when I hear Red Sox fans make it sound like the Red Sox don't have a lot of money, or that they have a low payroll. I know that Boston's payroll is over the $119 million dollar threshold that baseball has set, thus they will have to pay a luxury tax too. Boston is loaded, but they hide behind the fact that the Yankees payroll was around $200 million last year. If not for the Yankees, Boston's would be the highest. Also, the Yankees dumped Sheffield and his $13 million salary, traded Wright and his salary, and signed Mussina to a smaller deal. They are down approximately $25 million from last year. Boston's payroll stands to increase this year, whether they sign D-Mat or not, as they are probably going to sign J.D. Drew, I'd love to hear Red Sux fans when they realize the payrolls are getting closer.

Also, everyone seems to think that Steinbrenner is still a big, scary, fire-breathing owner. He is not. He's 76, old, not in good health and no longer the man he was. If he were, Torre and his coaching staff would have been fired, and he would be after every free agent out there. Clearly Cashman is in charge, and making good financial decisions, and he also does not have the ego that Little Theo does. To me, it really does look like the Red Sox are the meaner team, and the "new evil empire".

I don't think the Red Sox are the new evil empire. I think that will always be the Yankees. The Red Sox don't have that kind of money. From what I understand, if this guy doesn't sign, the Red Sox get their money back. To tell you the truth I think Epstein is just a big jerk to be doing what he's doing. The Sox have never really been that kind of organization, and now he's turning them into something they're not. I'm from Boston and I LOVE the Sox. It's in my blood to dislike the Yankees, But in reality, each individual player is a good guy, but as a team, I have to defend my home guys.

Be serious. The Yankees are the Evil Empire. They will strike back. But it's funny how the Yankees fans are whining just because the Red Sox beat them out on this one bidding battle. But if he pans out, with Schilling, Beckett, Lester, Papelbon and Wakefield, the Red Sox have some quality starters. Yankees have Johnson, Mussina and Wang as their core. Still a lot of off-season to go.

The Boston fans made up the term "evil empire." It comes from the hatred and envy of the Yankees success. They will try anything to get on a level plain with the Bombers. Fact is they will never be as good as the Yankees no matter what they do.

The Yankees are disliked by way of fact they attempt to purchase championships and then ***** that smaller marketplace communities could have the splendid to compete, and the followers think of that they have a suited to purchase any participant they like. The purple Sox are disliked by way of fact on account that prevailing a international series the followers have become rude and conceited, like chanting "Yankees Suck" in a interest the place the Yankees are not even playing. maximum of this is by way of the merchandising of a "opposition" this is stale and overdone to a element the place distinctly plenty absolutely everyone exterior of latest England ought to care much less.
