The new card does not have a power cord and I am installing it so that I can run 2 monitors. If the new card does not work and I have disabled the onboard card how will I see what is going on to re enable the onboard card. I am totally freaked about disabling the onboard. I have gotten to the point of doing it and just can't make myself in fear of the inability to see what is going on....should I call the geeksquad?

As for getting back the onboard video:
Yes, if you disable the onboard video card, you will need another video card to see video. However, in the worst case scenario, you can simply pull the CMOS battery for 10 minutes to clear all of the bios settings. That would give you your onboard video back.
A CMOS battery on most computers is about the size of a quarter, and is socketed.

As for running dual monitors:
If the new video card supports dual monitors, then you will want to disable your onboard. If not, you may need the onboard card.

As for testing the new video card first:
Simply installing it and seeing if you get video may not work.
You may also have to uninstall the drivers for the onboard video card before you get video on the new card. Depends.

don't disable it. Try using only the other card while keeping the onboard video enabled. Just don't use that for your monitor. If that works, disable the onboard video.

If it doesn't, I don't know then.

Boot your computer in safe mode, this should bring it up in VGA, so you can see what you're doing.
