Hi. This is really a good question. I remember when I was about 11 years old, I noticed that I was 'smelling' late in the day, before I took my shower in the evening. My mom put me on deodorant pronto. Usually this event happens when a boy begins puberty and sometimes it's onset is early.
It's great that you son is already doing this, in my opinion it's a good time to start treating him as a young man. I began shaving at 13 - I mean I had whiskers at this age, so be ready to support him as he becomes a maturing man. You're a good mom for just asking. I definitely vote for allowing him use of deodorant. Also it seems boy are sexually maturing earlier theses days. I saw a 14 year old with a full beard the other day - Good luck!

My son is in the fifth grade and has been using deodorant seen he was in the third grade. what I did was to try an organic deodorant antiperspirant free for a while and observe how that worked. Well it work for a year but when testosterone kick in there nothing you can do so my son has been using speed stick for two years now I did not want him walking around smelling like onion. Kid have so much to deal with in school you don't want hi gene to be one of them. I hope I helped. Also as a Latin mother we also tend to try rem ides that our parents try back in the days I try this one but didn't work for to long but then again everyone is different. Take lemon with Baking Soda and rub gently in the arm pit it suppose to kill bad odors.

I agree that he's a little too young. I started in high school after developing some hair under the arm-pits. Even if he insists, he's still YOUR son, there's always a way to say NO firmly. I know we want o give our kids what they want but in this case he really doesn't need it especially that it may cause some irritation for his skin then develop skin allergies later on in life. Try to explain to him why he can't use it (with the risk of allergy theory) and offer to him a soap deodorant, he probably just want to be a big boy.

I started using deodorant on a daily basis when I was 12 years old. My parents did make sure I used it when I played PeeWee football, and Little League Baseball when I was younger. I can remember having my own deodorant as young as 7 years old. I just used it when I wanted to at that age.

My hubby began to sweat and stink at an early age, so by the time he was 12 or 13 or so, he was using deodorants (NOT antisudoriphics!) back in those days!
note: Antisudoriphic means antipersperent or antiperspirent

I started around 14 years of age, but quit at 17 when I went to college and had access to a college library and found out how much harm they do. In my opinion, they are really dangerous.

He may be starting to feel his hormones. Maybe find a natural deodorant like Tom's of Maine.

Puberty. Try getting him a deodorant soap or body wash. He might like being a "big boy." Deodorant sticks or gels will get all over his clothes, especially that white one.
