We'll be spending Christmas with my husband's dad, and I'm assuming his girlfriend will be there, too. Wondering what a good, inexpensive gift is. They've been together for about a year now but we live far away and haven't gotten to know her. What do you think?

I would go for something small and thoughtful, rather than "inexpensive". If you talked with your FIL (father-in-law), I'm sure you could gather some quick information about the things she likes to do, her favorite cologne and such. Maybe she's into crochet or knitting, then you could buy a pattern book and some yarn. Or maybe she's into golf, you could get her some club-covers or some personalized golf-balls. Or maybe she's into photography, you could get her a new camera bag.

Some other, more general, ideas off the top of my head are:

Hallmark (or Wal-Mart, if you prefer) has some nice photo ablums, memory boxes and such.

A scrap-book starter kit with everything she needs except the photos to get started with scrap-booking.

A "frou-frou" bath set with bath crystals, lotion, soaps, ect.

A gift certificate to a local salon for a manicure and/or pedicure.

A robe and nightgown set.

A set of mittens with a scarf and hat.

If all else fails, get a gift certificate for some place nice like "Bed, Bath and Beyond" or a nice restaurant as a couple's gift.

Gift certificates say "I can't be bothered to spend time or effort in getting to know anything about you". Food is no good as many women do not like chococlate or have allergies or are dieting. Nothing worse than having 6 day planners!! Don't buy scented candles!! Cheap bath products cause allergic reactions! If she is your dad's girlfriend, then you should be asking HIM and not Yahoo strangers, unless, of course, your own past experience reveals that he's a poor gifter himself! Cheap jewellery says exactly that: CHEAP JEWELLERY. First, decide exactly how much you have to spend. Then, set about finding the most original thing you can find for that amount. Ask dad if she enjoys alcohol with meals - you can spend about $19 and get a lovely bottle of Asti Spumante sparkling wine which is not too dry, not too sweet and is not cheap plonk. A real silk scarf can be purchased for less than $20. if you hit import stores. One BIG, revealing question is: Does she collect anything? I collect chopsticks and people bring me beautiful ones and spend between $3.00 and $15. a pair and I am just thrilled with each pair I receive!! Even if she collects silver serving pieces, you can spend as little as $10. and get a nice gift. It's just always better to ask questions and get the BEST you can for the money you have. Better a real silver antique salt spoon you got at a flea market for $10.00 beautifully wrapped than a huge inappropriate lime-green sweater you spent $100. for!

Ask her mom what her famous band is and get her a band shirt and poster. Or a t shirt with a humorous asserting or photograph. or only browse warm subject rely, they have a rather good variety of stuff a 14 3 hundred and sixty 5 days previous wish and maximum of it falls in that budget. i'm specific they have cool hat/glove/scarf combinations around Christmas. you may additionally try Spencer's presents for some option presents.

At first I thought of a gift card, but thought better, since it would be nice to give her something more tangible than a gift card. I'm sure you know some interests this woman has and capitalize on it. Find out from your father-in-law what she likes and take it from there.

A gift certificate to Bath & Body Works, to a restaurant, or to something she can do with your dad.

a generic gift is always good in these situations... a gift certificate, or just some nice smelling candles and a nice candle holder, or something nice from bath and body works

How about a scarf? Ask Dad what color her hair is and then you will have a guideline. Or a day planner with a cloth cover. Should be able to pick up either for 15.00 or so.

When visiting a house, I think it is appropriate to give a little something to whoever lives there. An ornament is always a nice idea or candles if she is into that.
