I know Mt. Charleston is close but I've heard it's too icy. Any places close to here with good powder?

Brianhead, UT. But it is about 2.5 hours away. I board there and it has had great powder in the past. Not open until a little later in the year though. Check Brianhead.com

I agree Brain Head is probably the closest but, it can be pricey. I live in Vegas and we looked at buying a cabin out that way, and even the hotel rooms were higher in price than expected. It is as if in that small area expect to double the cost of any expense. You can probably be lucky to stay in one of the small nearby cities I believe Cedar City is the closest city that has more than 1,000 people. It is not that far a drive to the mountain and there is a back way in through Dixie Forest and Cedar Breaks.
We spend our free time in that area throughout the year there are nice little cities like Panguitch that are roughly 30 min from Bryce Canyon, Zion, Cedar Breaks, Brian Head...etc.
It's a nice area and the people are really pleasant.

Big Bear mountain in California. That one is pretty close and has some great snowboard friendly slopes. It even has a big snowboard park. Even if it's not the closest, its probably the best for snowboarders.

Best of luck.
