Yes, I think so. Our government office is closed. Let's face it, people are not going to be productive on that day. In fact, they'll be angry. Better to loose a little dough on that one day and make it up with better company moral and productivity down the road.
Some managers just don't get it!
napsuperdupe - Man you must be an awful boss. If I managed my employees with that attitude they'd hate my guts. This is why employers have such a bad rep in this country.

I agree. The last employer that I worked at and the current one I have to work the day before and the day after the holiday in order to get paid for that holiday.... To me since Thanksgiving is always on a Thursday they should give that Friday off as paid. If the hourly people is required to work the day after then the salary people should do the same. Not unless it is their required day off or on vacation..

It really doesn't matter to me if I work the Friday after, salary or not, I have to be here. We don't get paid holidays at my job. If I want Saturday off, I must work Friday. I am salary but to remain salary I have actually be here 35 hours a week in order to get paid 40. It balances out because most of the time I am here 45+ anyways, so once in a while I will leave 1/2 day early. We close only on the main holidays. More and more places are not honoring extra days off, if they do the employees simply do not get paid.

As long as you were up front with the employee when they were hired you don;t owe them something that you hadn't promised. I too am a business owner. The business doesn't bring in any money when it is closed. The decision is yours, we do offer holiday pay for just a few of the major ones each year. That would affect the profitablility, and therefore the bonus amounts. Again the issuing of paychecks early would be a much appreciated thing if they normally would be issued when the holiday occurs.

The thanksgiving day is a free day that has been recognized for many years and aside
from that also it is recognized by the government and also by the work ministry, this ministry must have some law that maintains that it is a national free day and it must be paid.

I would just be "thankful" that they gave me Thanksgiving Day off to spend with my family. It's not Thanksgiving Weekend or Thanksgiving Week. It's Thanksgiving DAY. Sure, we would all like to have an extra day off work, but it really costs a company to do this. What about they pay you for Thanksgiving Day but you can take friday off without pay if you want to. Most employees wouldn't go for that because they are looking for a freebie. Sorry, I have to disagree with you.

I think it should be a two-day paid holiday. No one wants to be stuck at work on a holiday. Besides, if you work in anything other than retail, all of your customers are at the day-after sales anyway!!

No. You work, you get paid.
It's too bad we have so many Americans who have an entitlement mentality and burden the backs of those who are ambitious and contribute to society.
I am against paid holidays in general.
You employer may choose for/against. But it is certainly up to the individual company. If you are paid for the time-off, be THANKFUL during Thanksgiving.

Mine does. It is quite nice. My last two employers did as well, but I tend to work at large companies that take care of their employees well, rather than small places that can't afford to be closed very often.
