It's three days post-partum and my boobs are hard as a rock. I knew this would happen since I'm not breastfeeding and all the milk is coming in... but how long is this awful pain going to last? And any ways to stop the pain?

I'm not able to breastfeed. Keep your stupid opinions to yourself.

I was engorged too. I was told by the nurses to wet two diapers and freeze them and them put them on your breast. It supposed to help.

The nurse let me borrow there pump so I could get some milk out. I would see if you can buy or borrow a pump and pump some out. But that would relieve some of the pressure. Just do enough to make you feel comfortable. after your done put cold pack on or the frozen diapers, so you wont produce and more milk.

I kept the milk cause I knew I was going back to work. AND Now he does both breast milk and formula.

What ever you do, it is your choice. Good Luck.

This can happen even if you are breastfeeding. Did your doctor give you any meds to help dry you up?

If not, massage works wonders. Also, hot compresses or a hot shower may help with the pain and engorgement.

If you don't get any relief in a day or so, I'd call the doc. It could be an infection.

Cold cabbage leaves. Put them in your bra, when they get warm get another set of leaves. I did this when I stopped breast feeding and it sounds funny and smells a little funky but it really does work. Ice packs work good too, and motrin. It shouldnt be bad for much longer, maybe a week or so

Also take an ace wrap and bind your breasts as tight as you can. It helps to block the milk ducts from making more milk AND it helps the pain

Dont waste your time asking your doctor about the pill. They no longer prescibed it because it was linked to cancer. My sis in law asked when she had a stillborn son and too bad.

Oh gosh, don't remind me! It shouldn't last more than 3 days (the HORRIBLE pain that is) but they will probably be tender for a couple weeks. Wear a tight sports bra, avoid overly warm showers and heating pads (heat will make more milk). Try some tylenol and stuff ice packs down your bra....lol, it does help! Good Luck!

Go ahead and manually express enough to make you feel more comfortable.... It will last a few days and I know it is painful..... I went through this when I stopped breastfeeding. Even tho' it's cold, you can put ice on them...anything warm will make the milk flow more...but I was soooo desperate I did it tho' sometimes because I thought I would DIE! Hang in there....

Pump and dump if you're really uncomfortable but don't do this often or you'll keep your milk supply up. It will eventually get better but you'll just have to deal with it until your milk supply goes down

A few days. I know this sounds silly but I heard putting cabbge leaves in your bra works. Dont pump you will just get more milk to come in.

They should have bound your chest in the hospital. Probably too late now. Take hot showers and if you know how express enough (by hand) just to releive the pain. Put cabbage leaves in your bra. (Helps to dry up the milk and the cold will help)

AVOID: yeast and oatmeal as they stimulate supply.

(Of course you could just breastfeed... I'm just saying. Even part time)
