I don't know if this is true with babies in the womb or not but humans will yawn when they need more oxygen in their brain. That is why everyone associates yawning with being sleepy.

I believe that babies in the womb do breath. They take in oxygen through the amniotic fluid in the womb. Yawning is the bodies natural response for either needing more oxygen, or fatigue. I'm not 100% sure of it, but I think this is right. If you need more I suggest asking your doctor or a medical professional for the best answers.

Baby's not only yawn but they also practice breathing in the womb. They do this so that when they come out they can breathe on their own. It is a good thing and means that things are progressing as they should be. Good luck.

Yawning has absolutely nothing to do with breathing. It's a reflex that stimulates blood flow to the brain. Also, it's well known that although they don't need to breath air, unborn babies do, in fact breathe. It exercises their diaphragm, and is a natural act as well.
Hope this helps

Unborn little ones do not extremely "breathe" contained in the womb. They do suck in and out the amniotic fluid (the mum's "water"). They receive all nutrients and gas substitute (oxygen/carbon dioxide) by the placenta and Umbilical twine. even as they're born and take their first breath of air, a chemical said as surfactant is secreted into the lungs causing them to be able to inflate wisely.

They're practicing all their muscles and reflexes out. that's why the get hiccups too. it's the diaphragm doing it's breathing thing. They also suck their thumbs and drink the amniotic fluid. All reflexes.
