What's the difference between having high self esteem or just being plain egotistical?

I think having a high self esteem means you're truly happy with yourself inside and out. You feel that you have a "full package" (personality, brains, looks, etc). Most people who have an ego problem have nothing of value to offer and they cover it up with their arrogance and false pride to appear happy with themselves.

Having a high self esteem means that your happy and comfortable in your own skin. Your still nice and considerate, willing to talk about a variety of subjects. Egotistical people, however, are very rude and become quite bored with any subject other than themselves.

As a matter of fact I think you're more prone to be egotistical when you have a low self steem. You tend to think only about yourself because you think noone else will.
On the other hand, it's easier to make other people feel good if you feel good about yourself.
