I am curious what you think.
Here in the Northwest we have people who do really stupid things such as sun bathing on our beach's (which is really cold anyways) out on our rocks, so when tide comes in they get stuck out there, one guy did this and was nude!
We had kids from another state get lost up in the ski slops and not dressed properly.
There is so many more people who do what we consider stupid things and search and rescue have to go get them.
Should these people have to pay the search and rescue bill out of there own pocket? I no they do charge a few of these people, but us tax payers pay the biggest chunk.
I realize these people are usually not from here and do not understand nature, but should Oregonians have to flip the bill for there ignorance?

I am from Florida and we have "visitors" that do things we consider insane all the time. I wish we could charge them! They float out into the ocean in the dark on blow-up rafts, They ride motorcycles after dark on curving roads drunk. They walk out into the forest and get lost, they get their cars stuck in the sand when tide is rising, I am ranting sorry. I could go on. Yes we should be able to charge them!!

If the majority of people that do those stupid things are visiting oregan, maybe there should be signs up at these popular areas, on the rocks, stating the dangers like the tide coming in suddenly and trapping them out there. In such an event they may be billed X amount of dollars for the rescue fee. This way that can't say, well l'm not from here and didn't know. It could also be posted on tourism websites for oregan and pamphlets. I agree there are some people that do stupid things...I live in whislter BC and Oh my god!!! You would not believe some of the things tourists do. Although the mountain goes out of it's way to warn people, they still go off hiking in out of bounds areas, get stuck in an avalanch and blah, blah , blah Anyway, I know how you feel.

No, these people should be terminated. Phasers from Star Trek would work well.
