Are Ants Decomposers Or Consumers

No they are not.....just becuse it is dead and they eat it dosnt mean its a decomposer. They can eat living things too where a decomposer cannot. Not all ants eat DOG FOOD or a DEAD BODY (deadgrl6). Many are just leaf cutters and many are carnivourous preying on other organisms...They kill what they eat.(and occasionally when hungry resort to a dead bug)....With 20,000 species of ants there are many kinds. Most are herbavoures or canivourous.

OK for some people who have no idea what they are talking about a ant is not a decomposer. IT CANNOT JUST live on already dead material. It hunts --that is its instinct....Look it up online...Some people are so stupid.. Not the question asker it was a good question ...but some people will just say anything because they want to have a guess at it.....

AS for.... (NYASI).. ...NOT ALL ANTS EAT WOOD>....CARPENTER ANTS DO KIND OF THEY REALLY HOLLOW IT OUT AND EAT OTHER BUGS BUT OBVIOUSLY THATS THE ONLY KID YOU HAVE EVER HEARD OF.....THERE ARE 20,000 different kinds not just one....

WE EAT DEAD THINGS DOSE THAT MAKE US DECOMPOSERS CERTAINLY NOT!!!! WE ARE OMNIVOURES..

Of course they are. Decomposers are those who eat dead materials and turn them to organic matter. Ants eat wood and when they **** its already an organic matter.

I don't think so. I think they are just herbivores or maybe omnivores.

"Overview of Decomposers

"These are heterotrophic organisms that obtain their energy from other, already dead, organisms. An example of decomposers is the numerous fungi on the right, they break down the dead tree converting its remaining stored energy to free energy."

Well, lets think about it. If your body rots in the middle of the forest or in the desert do you think so! Lets skip what if other creaters come out, but Really think! I think so. They eat anything! Dog food, old meat, dead things etc... So, yes would be a good guess!
