What if they had to meet certain requirements like have an education, a job or means of support other than from the government and medical insurance? As far as IQ testing, I have met some really stupid smart people. As a co worker says, you have to have a license to own a dog but any one can have a baby.

That could be construed as a Eugenics type of movement. I guess you could have people have an IQ test, but IQ only measures cognitive ability, not common sense or knowledge. Therefore the government would spend millions on these test and the results of having bad parents would be the same. Maybe mandatory parenting classes may be more effective and less offensive. BTW: IQ test are racially and culturally biased.

Three possibilities:

1/3 reduction in the population

Increase in illegitimate children

Increase in ignorance because IQ tests don't really test intelligence but adaptability to the society at hand.

In my opinion, less people would have children! However, I don't think this will ever happen. In 1994, 49% of pregnancies in the United States were unintentional. Therefore, I don't think IQ tests would ever be mandatory since half of pregnancies are unplanned.

We, as a species, would gradually get better at taking IQ tests.

Currently, the reverse is happening - if you look at the instructions on a condom wrapper as an IQ test.

That would be great - but it wouldn't help. I belong to MENSA (high IQ in the top 2%)......I have four boys. The twins are in talented and gifted at school....bright and intelligent. One is too young for testing. One, is autistic.

Theoretically, two people can have very high IQ's, but that does not guarantee the production of intelligent offspring......genetic roll of the dice.

Stupid people will always exsist. If they want to procreate, that's fine.....society needs to people to work the cruddy jobs.

Insurance companies would start requesting historic data on your ancestors before designing your policy specifically omitting any genetic predispositions to disease, then selling it to you for more than you pay for your mortgage.
Juries would be selected, not as a random sampling of one's peers, but selected from an elite group specifically chosen to lean to a specific verdict.
Companies would have access to your purchase history and specifically target you with advertisements designed to compel you to spend more.

...oh wait....this is already happening...

who would make the decision what IQ was required? And just because you have a "normal" or better IQ, you may still be a crappy parent. Sorry, I'm one of those "freedom of chioce" BSers.
