Is it better to be a devoted career man/woman or devoted family leader (mother,father...)?
What would work for you and make you happier to look back at?
A pair of eyes full of admiration for your work or a pair of eyes full of childish love?

I don't believe you can have both. Something will suffer and it will be the children. They need someone to be there and you're not there if you're at work. I think one parent (flip a coin) should stay home and raise the kids, not a babysitter or a nanny. That said. We never had to make the choice between career or family, briefly (6 yrs) while we had temporary custody of my husbands nephew, I quit my job and stayed home with him because it was the right thing to do. Now that he's been back with his Mother I have returned to my career. So, if I had to choose it would be to stay home with the child(ren)

Definitely family. People get wrapped up in their careers so much that sometimes they miss seeing their family grow up. The retire look back see a career but who cares, they didn't have a good family life. No got to put priorities in check.

Family is the only thing that matters in the end.
