Montana hands down

2006-11-15 05:15:54 · answer #1 · answered by Warrior 7 · 0 0

I personally think John Elway and Joe Montana are the two greatest quarterbacks that I ever saw play. I would give the edge to Montana because he was so cold and calculating and never let the pressure get to him. He could of been the MVP in every super bowl he played in which is something that Elway can not claim.

When the pressure was on and Montana had the ball you were going to lose. I remember rooting for the bengals in the superbowl(Because my dad and brother were 49ers fans) and when Montana got the ball back you just knew that the game was not over.

I think the verdict is still out on manning, at this point in Elway's career all he had to show was superbowl losses. There is no doubt he is one of the best of this generation, if not the best.

How do u even fit Peyton in that category w/ those QB's??? You can't compare a QB like Manning w/ Elway, Marino or Montana. They all have more experience and alot more games under their belts. There is absolutely no comparison. But between the other 3 - I would say John Elway.

Statistically: Dan Marino
Heart: Toss up between Montana and Elway, but i give it to Montana with more Super Bowl Rings.
Smarts: Manning.

Who's the best? Yikes.......... Thats tough.....
I'll go with Dan Marino

Quaterbacks are judged by championships. So if you use that analogy the rankings would go 1. Montana 2.Elway 3.Marino 4. Manning. Since Marino appeared in a Superbowl he ranks ahead of Manning.

Day in day out, it has to be Joe Montana. This is such a difficult question because so much of a quarterbacks success depends on his team--his line, his defense, and his all-pro receivers. But if had a random team and I got to pick from this list, I would go with Montana because of his vision and accurate decisions. When crunch time came, he usually got it done. Tough choice.
My hierarchy: Montana, Marino, Manning, Elway

I totally disagree on the ideology that the quality of a quarterback should be determined by the number of Super Bowl rings they have won.

If that ideology is used then Terry Bradshaw would be the best quarterback ever and he never even hardly threw a 300 yard game which many other quarterbacks have.

Or if you equated that to college, the one with the most national titles would be the best. If a college player who won no national titles were to go in the NFL and another QB who won two national titles went into the NFL and the national title winner did hardly anything and the other did great in the NFL, which of the two is best? Would that make the college national title winner better than someone like Tom Brady who was a 6 th round draft pick? I say that you have to pick them on talent. And the two best talented ones have never won a Super Bowl (Manning and Marino). And of the two I think Manning is better.

Quarterbacks should be judged on statistics. Teams should be judged on Super Bowl rings.

Montana, for being cool under pressure and being his best when it counted the most -- he not only got 4 rings at San Francisco, but his 2 years at KC nearly got them to the Super Bowl and made them the best teams Kansas City has had in 35 years.

Manning still has an opportunity to become the best, by establishing a few years of Super Bowl victories and by unquestionably coming through in the clutch -- but just racking up great stats and looking brilliant 95% of the time won't do it.
