I asked if anyone has actually had one. Someone asked what it was. Its when the baby is full term and the baby is delivered vaginally and as soon as the head appears, they stick scissors thru his/her skull and then pull the baby out and leave it to die by suffocation. Someone else said someone had it done she knew. Why would anybody wait so long? Im pro life anyway but full term? Thats twisted!

Yes, I know its illegal now. Thats what I said in part 1. They used to do it I THINK only as what theyd call "medical" reasons. But now you have to do it buy 24 weeks(again,"medical reasons" only)

I could not beleive when i searched for the term partial abortion , it was legal in the entire USA til 2003.

Its so sick,
Its so disturbing i cant get my head off the mental image .
And the actual procedure was much worse.
They sucked the baby's brain out so that his/her skull collapsed .
I feel like sick

A partial birth abortion is reality. (but they are being banned in some places.)

This is what it is.
Preliminary procedures are performed over a period of 2–3 days, to gradually dilate the cervix using laminaria tents (sticks of seaweed which absorb fluid and swell). Sometimes drugs such as synthetic pitocin are used to induce labor. Once the cervix is sufficiently dilated, the doctor uses an ultrasound and forceps to grasp the fetus' leg. The fetus is turned to a breech position, if necessary, and the doctor pulls one or both legs out of the birth canal, causing what is referred to by some people as the 'partial birth' of the fetus. The doctor subsequently extracts the rest of the fetus, usually without the aid of forceps, leaving only the head still inside the birth canal. An incision is made at the base of the skull and a suction catheter is inserted into the cut. The brain tissue is removed, which causes the skull to collapse and allows the fetus to pass more easily through the birth canal. The placenta is removed and the uterine wall is vacuum aspirated using a suction curette.[12]

They are not full term and they do not suffocate. (That was closer to hysterotomy which is not really done anymore Like a c-section, an incision is made in the woman's abdomen. The baby is removed then allowed to die by neglect. This procedure carries the same health risks as a c-section. While this procedure has lost its popularity to more modern ways of abortions, it has been a means used to abort children for some time on later term abortions.

If you are pro choice I don't see why people should back away from the reality. All those horrible pictures and descriptions are reality. They are not made up to make abortion look bad. Would you have another operation without knowing what they were going to do to you. You should have to be informed on exactly what will happen and how. Pro choice people are allowed to believe as they wish. It is IN her body after all.
Abortion has the same outcome no matter when preformed. It just looks worse at the end. Stand up for what you believe!

YES THIS IS LEGAL RIGHT NOW!

THE LAW TO BAN IT IN 2003 WAS CHALLENGED AND IS BEFORE THE SUPREME COURT RIGHT NOW!

Sorry, I was reading the list of mis-informed answers and it was making me nuts so I came back to tack that in.

"Partial birth abortion" is name given to the procedure by which the unborn baby's head is delivered vaginally and then (usually) the skull is punctured in the back and the brains removed. The term is also used to describe delivering the baby "breech" or legs first and then killing it while the head is still inside. It is legal in the U.S.

It was supposed to be made illegal by a Federal law in 2003 which has been hung up in court cases. I don't know if the law was even in effect for a day before the courts stopped its implementation.

The question of the constitutionality of the law is currently before the Supreme Court. One of the issues is whether the law can be struck down because there is no exception to save the mother's life.

Personally I think this is a smokescreen. If a woman can deliver all of a baby up to the center of its body, then delivering the rest of it will somehow kill her? Apparently Congress agreed which is why they passed the law.

The procedure is performed approximately 1,500-2,000 times a year, depending of who gives out the numbers.

If you don't believe what I have written, here is the law. You only have to read the first page:
http://frwebgate.access.gpo.gov/cgi-bin/getdoc.cgi?dbname=108_cong_bills&docid=f:s3enr.txt.pdf

Gruesome, isn't it? What amazes me is how some perfectly rational folks will defend this type of thing out of fear that if this is outlawed, then every type of abortion will be outlawed.

I had the misfortune to actually see a video of this horrible process, the baby was half way delivered, feet first, a pair of scissors then cut the nap of the back of the head and suctioned the brain matter. The film said that it was "illegal" to abort a live baby! I was sick to death for months, the images haunt me still. I can't believe women think its okay to do this!..... that's just straight up murder....I'm all for abortion during the first 4 weeks of a pregnancy, its' just cells. But at this stage that's a human being that can breathe, hear, feel...I mean, what the hell?????

Having a late stage abortion really is murder, give birth and give little one up for adoption, it just isnt right, the procedure is a legal way to murder a child.

Partial-birth abortion is still legal. The ban was immediately challenged in three federal courts, and the Supreme Court is considering it now. By the way, if you read the partial-birth abortion ban, you will see that it ONLY specifies that the baby must be killed BEFORE a certain portion of the baby moves outside the womb. Even if the ban is upheld, it's not going to save any babies. Abortions will still be able to be committed throughout all 9 months of pregnancy and will be done in equally heinous ways. You can read about the ban here:

Come on people...are you stupid? What this girl is saying is TRUE...have you not ever researched partial birth abortions?? Well..google it...and find out all the information you can...there are websites that will actually let you watch a video of it being done...so yes- there are actually doctors out there who WOULD do that...and people who would intentionally do HARM to their unborn child...believe it...and research shows that fetuses are even able to "feel" at that point in their lives...so, when I say harm- I mean physically PAINFUL harm...sick...

I will say this. Lawmakers to to fix the laws. My sister in law had a baby that died at 26 weeks and they would not allow a partial birth abortion, she had to be induced for labor. Mind you this baby was already dead and would not be killed and aborted. But because of the laws (which should say no partial birth abortion for LIVING babies) she had to have labor and was in pain for 20 plus hours. I think that is stupid

I know a girl who had one done at 24 weeks in WA back in the 90's they didnt medically explain it in detail at all to her. Just knocked her out and did whatever they did and sent her home

looks like a lot of the people that answered your question are idiots if they dont think what your saying is true. but i dont know if they used scissors. but yes, its called the partial-birth abortion and on the right to life site they have animated pictures of how its done. in the us in some states they still did it after roe vs. wade. but that is just one of the most inhumane thing ive seen.

That's so sad and cruel. Anyone who does that should be suffocated and not the baby! Why not just have the baby and give it up for adoption??

This is highly illegal in the western world, though it used to be practiced in Communist China as means for population control and maintaining the 1 child per family rule. Check out Roe v. Wade which contains the laws and limits for abortions in the United States and I think that you will be suprised to learn that any abortions given after the fourth month of pregnancy are illegal unless decided to be fatal or dangerous to the health of mother or child. It's quite plainly stated. Do your research before you post such sensitive questions.
