I had this idea, kinda' perverted, but don't give me a thumbs down, people! I wonder if anyone ever had telegraph sex. You know how nowadays they have phone sex and cyber sex, so I wonder if anyone ever talked dirty over telegraph. "Baby, you're really turning me on. STOP No, don't stop. STOP"
Okay, I'm a freak.

Major news, both good and bad, came first through the telegraph. The news of Lincoln's death flashed around the country in hours, not days or weeks, via telegraph.
In contrast, it took over 2 months for the folks in Oregon to learn that President Zachary Taylor had died in 1850.
The telegraph made it possible for families to spread out more without losing touch. You never wanted to hear that Aunt so-and-so was dying, but you felt more connected to family for the news.

well, if i wanted to lets say send a message on a boat that is sinking, for example the situation on titanic. the telegraph was used to send an sos.--even though it was ignored. then you could send info also to people in different countries or, i am not sure, continents to tell them about wars or emergency things. or just plain contant.

I wanted to keep in contact with friends and family, esp. if I needed money. I wanted to wire money too to help people out.
