Spin offs are traditionally of poor quality, and this seems to be a hastily churned out, ill-thought-through moneymaker on the back of BBCs reteurn of Dr Who. Unfortunately, the BBC used to be famous for its dramas, including great adaptations of 'Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy', but has produced very little of note in the last 15 years. A great shame because we will have no decent actors left, if we don't start producing them and letting them earn a living. Everything is superficial, and only beautiful people get on screen. Where will the next Ken Stott come from?

Have to disagree with you i'm afraid. Torchwood is a lot better than i thought it would be and i'm hooked! Gwen looks fit and the storylines are darker than Dr. Who. so of course everyone won't be into it. Russell Davies has the new K9 series for the kids and Torchwood for the adults. Dr. Who is in-between.Three episodes in and they've been v, original.

Aw I love Torchwood! How can you say there is no likeable characters? Capn Jack is the best ever, he's really good. Owen is also funny...Gwen, however, is a bit cold.
I agree, they cram too much into an hour. But it's nice easy watching, all the same. Beats 'Eastenders' or 'I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here'.

Im with you on that I really enjoyed the Dr Who series - especially the one with the French women and the finale - Very emotional to be honest.
Torchwood IMO lacks a likeable lead character - Capt Jack I find somewhat pompous, Gwen I liked but the rest of the crew I havent warmed to.
Im stopping watching and focus on some of the better series imo - Heroes, Lost (!), Spooks, Greys etc

Well... watch it tonight and you may change your mind! It has these evil faeries from the dawn of time and we find out a bit more about Jack's past.
I don't really watch much TV these days, basically just Torchwood, Doctor Who and the news.

I think it just needs to be longer - they're trying to cram too much into a short time slot. It's a good idea and good cast - if it was longer they could tidy up the details a bit more and make it fantastic.

Agree, it doesn't know whether it wants to be a grown up show or a kids show. Having the odd death or gay snog does not a grown up show make.
