You don't. It's going to hurt anyway you do it. Think about it, Dude. That's just impossible. Just be kind and don't do the "let's be friends" thing, or the "it's not you, it's ME" thing. Just tell the person you want out. Period. And take it like a man. You didn't have a problem with that when you wanted "in", now did you? godloveya

Sorry to let you know, but a break up almost ALWAYS involves one or the other being hurt. It's reality. Yeah, it's not fun, but it's still reality.
Open communication. Stay firm (don't weasel). Move on with your life. Let her move on with hers.
Good luck.

I don't believe that it is possible to avoid hurt feelings when ending a relationship.
The right thing to do is to be honest with her and don't let the "breakup" drag on because she probably can sense what you are feeling.

You can not control what another person feels, however, be strong, and it doesn't hurt to martyr yourself a little, if you are concerned for her well being...
"I wasn't that great of a catch, anyway" can go a long way. Whatever you do, don't BLAME HER...

Just be completely and totally honest and rational with her. Any time someone gets dumped they are going to be hurt, but you would make it way worse by going about it in a bad way.
