You mentioned macaroni - did you know you can get lots of different shapes? Get various kinds of dried pasta that has a hole (ziti, macaroni, etc.) to make the necklace more interesting... although I'm not clear on how a necklace made out of food has anything to do with indians at Thanksgiving...

Any type of hollow noodle, any "O" shaped cereal, berries, etc. are all good. For the noodles, with a bit of cool water and food coloring, you can make a variety of colors. Mix the dye and water, dip the noodle for a few seconds, then check it - if not dark enough, dip again, or add more food coloring. Then let them dry before he tries to thread them.
