I was like you until recently, couldn't decide between top or front loader. I ended up getting a front loader & haven't looked back. It's a beauty! Washes extremely well & doesn't use much water. It is a 7kg, plenty big enough but I would have preferred a faster spin speed than 800rpm & I do advise getting a machine that measures the amount of water required for the load. I will never go back to a top loader. All the best!!!

Top loaders are available still. I recommend you go to Lowes, The Home Depot , and any other chain store in your area and have a salesclerk give you the salespitch on what they carry and all the advantages and disadvantaged of the different models. Let them know you have been shopping around and so far you like a model in the other store. You need several salespeople's opinion. I shopped for my washer for 4 months and I got sales reps who did and didn't know what they were talking about but for the investment I was making (and I did get the LG frontload model that doesn't have a transmission belt at The Home Depot) it was worth the time.
The only problem I had with my washer, was that it was broke when it arrived at the store. They said they had this problem alot because stuff was getting dropped in shipping (like off the boat)before store arrival. I know this because I work there.
Like everyone else said, front load is a bit more exp. but it is gentler on your clothes, less water, and a LOT less soap.
If you want alot more details on my machine, email me.

I replaced front loaders every year for years - they all packed up just after the guarantee ran out. I then went for an LG american style top loader - that was 8 years ago and never had a problem xx

I finally made the switch to a front loader after 20 years. I LOVE IT it is a LG steamwasher. This model weighs the load and adds the apprpriate amount of water and the spin cycle cant be beat. Clothes come out almost dry!

Top loaders are easier and cheaper, front loaders are supposed to do a better job, with less water usage, but they cost an arm and a leg.

I didn't know they still made top loaders, since, like 1960! Those things are totally outdated. They use 3 times as much water and electricity and they ruin your clothing faster, becuase they use a twisting motion rather than a squashing motion. Definitely get a front loader.

I got a small front loader after years of using and loving them at the laundry mat and owning top loaders. I loved the way the front loader uses less water (water is getting harder to get cheaper) and electricity too. I love mine, its a Whirlpool and one of their smaller models. It does my comforters for queen sized beds with ease, and until recently I used it for all my rugs. Then one that I had washed many times before (with the rubber backing on it) let loose with all the rubber (who knows why?) and it clogged up the whole thing. I did my best to clean it all out, cleaned out the filter at the bottom, but finally gave up and called a repairman. He came right away and did all I did but better, and finally got it running again, draining the water and so on. It took 2 days of running it intermittently to get it all that rubber sludge out of it, but it did work and has worked PERFECTLY since. The repairman told me to use the laundry mats washers for those kinds of rugs, that way, if it messes up like that again, its not a service call to me. It cost me less than $60 for the in home service call and the warranty is 6 months over, so still cheaper than the extended warranty would have cost, so I am still ahead and little smarter for the trouble. I would recommend a front loader for efficientcy and saving money, plus they are easier on your clothes, they clean better and so on. What are you waiting for? Life's messy, clean it up!

I love the look of the front loaders, BUT, I've known people who owned them and had a lot of problems. The seals around the door tend to go quit quickly causing leakage, then money for repairs!
Hope this helped!
