im not familiar with that program in particular but usually you can right click the taskbar icon and somewhere in the settings is an option to have it active from startup. consult the program help or website and familiarise yourself with the options to use it more effectively in general.
you could always uninstall it from your add/remove programs settings in the windows control panel. AVG offer a highly praised free antivirus program, this may work out better for you as it is well supported.

At the extreme top or bottom of your monitor screen, there
should be a tool-bar. In the bar find Toolbox with a picture of
a claw hammer. Click it then a small block appears, next
click on your internet provider. Should have a spot to temporarly
turn on or off your anti-virus. Try this to turn back on.

Try to right click on it, and see whether it gives the option to start up.
If that option does NOT present itself, uninstall the program and reinstall it.
If that still doesn't work, get the trial version of Panda. I have found that to be the best presently available. If you do that and like it, you can buy a 1 years version via http://www.pricewatch.com for about $10.50 (the 2007 version).

Don't know about your program specifically.
We went with hardware antivirus and not software. Seems to work better for us and we don't have to worry about updating all the time.
