what do you call the type of multiplication where you start off with the first left vertical numbers, multiply, not using a pencil, go to the next 2 vertical numbers and multiply them with each other, take the sums and but them as the product...gosh this explanations sounds horrible but hopefully someone knows what im talking about? what is it called

i think you are talking about the dot product.

(2,2)dot(2,1) = 2*2+2*1=6

you can also write the co-ordinates as
2x+2y and 2x+1y and in this case you can see that it is the x's times the x's and the y's times the y's then all added up.

I don't know if it has a name, but it should be called the Basque method. It was purportedly developed by Basque sheepherders to ward off boredom and keep alert.
