Im not sure what to do on this...Im not very computer smart. But i dont want to mess up the computer either, and im scared once i delete everything i wont be able to install windows XP again......???? ANY advice please?!?!?! Thanks so much!!!

If you have a restore cd then it will automatically ERASE all information on your PC and reinstall windows XP...

Warning you will lose all data on the pc.
To answer you question, if you have a restore cd, it should automatically put windows back on, just like when you first got the pc.

I reccomend not doing this though, just because your pc is running slow or freezing... You probably have a virus, or spyware.

Try these 2 items before jumping into formatting your pc...

First go to http://www.download.com and in the search bar type in AVG. Download the first one on top that appears, AVG FREE EDITION OR PERSONAL EDITION.
(Prior to installing AVG, remove any precious virus scanner you might have, chances are you dont have one installed)

Download it, install it, update it all the way ( you will need to click update more than 3 times I think ) and once it updates, run a full computer scan....

Second try the same thing, but download and install this...

http://www.ewido.com

Update it once its installed, then scan...

It is important that once you install both of those programs, that you UPDATE them first before scanning, otherwise they may not catch a spyware or virus if it is brandnew.

re-installing windows is the FINAL option, before tat chek out whether there is any power fluctuation(get a UPS).
chek all the wire connections, whther it is all at the same position n it is properly plugged.
install antivirus
at las, when alll these fails reinstall XP.
insert cd n FOLLOW THE STEPS.its easy but selct the proper drive.....dont INSTALL ON other drives.alll ur data wil be erased .better bak up all important data n nstall it only on C DRIVE.before installing it chek out the CD KEY /SERIAL NUMBER.may be present on the cd OR as a note pad file inside the XP CD.

If you have a windows restore cd, similar to what comes with dell computers it will give you the option of doing a complete reinstall (wipes everything out takes it back to out of the box condition) or a repair install which tries to fix bad files. Before either method back up all of your files to CD or flash drive because you can lose them all.

But before you do that try this. Go to http://buttuglysoftware.com/ and download cleancache 3.5. Sometimes computers freeze up because of a corrupted file in the windows or internet cache. This program cleans the cache and clears up excess junk on your computer. Since you are close to using the nuclear solution go to each section of clean cache and have it clean everything.

You may need to download and install microsoft net framework to get the program to run. You can get it here.

if you're going to re-install windows make sure that you have a serial number and such. usually it's on the cd case of your XP cd or some pc's have a little sticker on the side of your computer case with all the information that you will need.

You will need more information to fix your problem. You can try two things. First take a look at you log files. Start->settings->control panel->administrative tools->event viewer. Then look at the system, application, and security log entries. If there is a problem, then you will be able to link it to an application or driver there.

Second you can try the windows task manager to see what processes are active at the time of your problem. right click on time->task manager->process tab. Try sorting processes on cpu time or memory.

The first step is to identify the offending process, then you can try to fix it.

Run spybot S&D or Ad-aware. If you run a system restore, either use non destructive retore, or at least choose to back up all files
