What could be causing this and around how much would it cost to fix?

It doesn't speed up, but it sounds like it is wanting to.

have you changed the fuel filter lately? ps in a 92 you dont have a carburator

Which truck is it? What eng.? does it have TBI? Exactly what are the symptoms? Is it a hesitation? Or bogging on acceleration? Its` a crap shoot diagnosing a problem this way; So give us some specifics, and lets see what happens.

If this is truly a carb engine your accelerator pump is going bad

Have the fuel pump checked?.....depends on if you are sleeping with the mechanic or not?
Might be something in the fuel line?

you may have a bad throttle position sensor or map sensor,get it scaned
