Did anyone see Oprah on Monday where she had a lady on there that unlocked the secret to baby language? It was incredible to watch this woman calm down 10 crying babies in a matter of minutes because she understood what they were saying. What do you think?

I just wanted to add that I was never one of those mother's (unfortunatly) who knew the baby's different cries. After watching this, I could hear the difference. It was amazing.

Funny how ignorant people with no children think this is crazy. Believe it or not, babies will sometimes cry even if you do pick it up. Amazing huh? Please, no more dumb remarks if you don't have personal experience.

I saw that too! At first I thought she was full of it, but as it went on, she seemed to really know what she was talking about. I especially liked when she would explain about which reflex triggers the type of sound.

Also, I'm a music educator, and from my own research, I've come across many people who have an incredible ear for sounds, including pitch and timbre (the quality of the sound), so I don't think it's an incredible surprise that this woman was able to distinguish the beginning sounds of the cry, or the 'precry'.

So cool!

Yes I did see this! Its hard to say but Oprah is quite credible, right?!! I have 2 children (4 and 1) and I remember after a few months or so I could determine their cries better and now with my daughter (the 1-yr old) I can usually tell what she needs by her noises. So in theory this could definitely be very key for new mothers all over! With her mind being so amazing this is just incredible! Do you have a very small baby? I think she said it works for under 3 months. Someone try it and let me know!

I have never been able to tell the difference between the cries of my daughter. She's 17 months old and I still don't know what she wants when she cries. I couldn't really hear the difference from the tv show but she did say you'd need to hear it several times so we'll see if the county library ever gets the video. I'll watch it and start listening to newborns.

Yes I did see it!

I thought it was pretty amazing as well!
It was really weird because I have a nephew who is almost 3 months old and as I was babysitting him yesterday, I tried to test it out on him. Out of all the time I actually wanted him toi cry he wouldnt!
But he had been asleep fot almost 3 hours and when he woke up he started crying and he was crying the HEH sound. And I tnought wow this is freakiy becasue I actually, like heard it through the cry! so i gave him a bottle.

only problem was after he was finished he started crying the HEH cry again then it changed to EH do i tried to burp him...after that I gave him his binkie and then he was okay!

So I think it works...

It was very very neat to see that! I immediately called my brother's girlfriend that is pregnant and told her all about it! Sure she laughed at me when I made the sounds to listen for but whatever. Even though my baby is 4 1/2 months old and I can't use that technique anymore I remember hearing alot of those sounds and man oh man I could've really used that some nights!

I saw it and its soooo true. My niece just turned 6 months and I watch her couple nights a week and I have picked up on her sounds and she makes different sounds for when she is hungry, tired and when she needs to be burped. The only one I didn't know was crying because of discomfort, but now I know why she doesn't like her car seat....

I saw that. I think there's something to it. I was trying to remember all the different sounds, but I couldn't. I remember the n sound for hungry and the ow for tired. I definitely hear those in my baby.

I can calm one crying baby, my daughter, by simply picking her up. Friggin' amazing!

I just guess my daughter only cries if she wants to be picked up her if she wants her bottle. All babies aren't the same!

Amazing!!

i think that's crazy. If my baby was crying i would just pick her/him up and figure out what he/she wants then it's solved. If i had a baby i would teach it basic sign language so i can know what he/she wants
