I was flipping through channels the other day and happened to come upon someone who was interviewing Jerry Springer, who was stating that the elections showed that our country is becoming more and more liberal.
Do you think this is true. Consider the fact that the only way that democrats achieved the major wins they needed this election was with pro-life, pro-gun, anti-gay marriage candidates- not exactly the standard for liberal policies. Couple that with the fact that the Republicans were caught up in an unpopular war and include the fact that people were fed up with curruption in the Republican party. Can you really say that the nation got more liberal OR did the Democrats get more conservative to capitalize on discontent in the conservative base? The Republican victory in '04 was about values and this year corruption- lack of values, same. Also consider the fact that congress is still made up of a conservative majority how much of Pelosi's leftist agenda will she get through?

I don't think the elections showed our country was becoming more liberal. I think the statement you made is correct. It will be interesting to see how far Nancy will get.

This election proved we are a more moderate nation. Even though the Dems have the numbers in the Senate, if you look at the records of Dems that won in usually Republican strongholds, you will see they vote very conservatively. Jim Webb from Virginia was a Republican before this election, look at his platform he is very conservative. I think the Republican that beat Ford in Ten. is actually a little bit more Liberal then Ford. Face it folks the far left isn't anymore popular then the far right.

I think the country is moderately conservative, but slowly moving to the middle of the political spectrum. I think the 2006 elections where a referendum on the war in Iraq and the GOP. I think the election results were more about rejecting the war and the rampant corrupt of the GOPled Congress than a strong poltical shift.

The majority of democrats that were elected in this election are conservative democrats. They ran on a platform that stressed conservative values. The country remains to be conservative and I see no reasonable thinking to suggest any movement towards the left unless you are from the left coast.

If John McCain have been as proficient a speaker as is Barack Obama, John McCain might desire to nicely be President immediately. he's slightly weaker on "off-the-cuff" comments, yet after 8 years with George W. Bush's speech impediment, even Obama's vulnerable spot seems reliable.

I don't accect the premise of a Repuke '04 "victory". Depends on what you mean by "our country". If ALL the votes were counted ALL the time, without ACTIVE voter repression and fraud by Repukes, they would have a hard time ever winning an election.

I think most people are moderates, but the media and the politicians have brainwashed people into believing they are either ultra-Liberal or ultra-Conseravative. Quite frankly, that's just not the case. Most are somewhere in the middle.

definitely more moderate. Actuially not MORE, just moderate. And usually what happens is when one party has too much influence, they are voted out in favor of balance. That's what happened this time to the reps, and last time to the dems
