bacteria rots milk until it becomes YOGHURT and it can rot further until CHEESE is made!
Also don't forget VACCINATIONS... these actually contain a small amount of the disease in question so that your body can fight it (without becoming ill). If ever you get infected for real your body now knows what to do and fights it off!
YEAST is used to make bread and the brewing of beer
hope this helps! :-)

Microbes are useful to us in a number of ways.
1. In the intestines, they help us by making vitamin K.
2. The enzymes extracted from some bacteria are used in washing powders to breakdown 'biological' stains like those from food and drink. Usually from bacillus subtilis.
3. Many antibiotics are extracted from fungi. Penicillin is the most famous example but others include streptomycin, neomycin and gramicidin.
4. Many milk-derived products are the results of fungal growth. Typical examples are yogurts and cheese. Junket, now made with the bacterial enzyme rennin, was one of the earlier examples used by our grandparents.
5. The normal commensal flora of the gut helps protect us from pathogens and parasites associated with dysentery.
6. Dead or attenuated bacteria and viruses are the basis on many prophylactic vaccines.
Hope this helps cover the topic.

In animals that eat lots of grass (sheep, cows and so on), their digestive system is very inefficient at breaking down the cellulose in grass. Bacteria in the animals gut speed this process up and the animal is then able to use the nutrients much more efficiently.

Many bacterias and fungi are used in food production. For example yeast is used in the brewing of beer and for making bread rise. In certain cheeses bacteria are used to make the holes we find in them.
There are also micro-organisms within our bodies that help us. These are called commensals and a good example of one is that in a woman's vagina are bacteria which stop harmful bacteria from entering and breeding inside her.
Microbes are also used in the production of certain medicines, washing poweders, the treatment of sewage, to convert waste food to compost... and hiundreds of other things.
