You can buy whole new sets of stainless steel tableware for 19.99 at any store.
If it was a real silver service I might try what you propose but stainless steel is inexpensive and you would never be sure if you got all rough spots out.

shouldn't be a problem if you use the right attatchment. I use mine for just about everything from polishing fine jewellry. (I wear rings on all my fingers) to major automobile repairs etc. Great tool in the right hands!!!!!!
