I was reading an article on Yahoo! Tech and found "HKEY-LOCAL-MACHINE" What is that? How do you use it? What is the registry this person is talking about?
Below is the whole comment:

Some people may not know what "malware" is, so they didn't follow the link that told them to download the free version of Adaware. When my daughter gets off MySpace, she'll have 30-40 critical objects. PLUS, she will have used Quicktime, which will have installed itself in the startup list. This will slow down the system startup. As long as we're in the Registry... Find someone who KNOWS WHAT THEY'RE DOING to show you how to go into HKEY-LOCAL-MACHINE and delete the unwanted start ups from the Run submenu. Unchecking things using MSCONFIG will cause the system to yell at you everytime you startup to remind you that have unchecked something. The Registry is the place to remove things

Mandatory Warning!!!: If you do not know what you are doing in the registry, and delete something by mistake, it could (and probably will) keep your PC from being able to boot. It is recommended that before editing the registry you create a restore point so that if you mess it up, it may be possible to restore the registry. You may want to get someone who is familiar with the registry to help you do this editing.

With msconfig, when you get the "nag" screen, there is a check box at the bottom that you mark and it will not nag you anymore (until you make another change in msconfig)

To edit the registry, you first must be on the PC with an administrator account.
Click the Start Button
Select Run
Type in: regedit

Should open a Window that displays the registry. It is a cascading list of information your PC uses to do literally everything it does. Clicking the little + or - signs in front of entries will open or close the sub-entries.

There are five higest level key, the third one on the list is call HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. To remove that items that you are unchecking in msconfig, you would move down through the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE to where they are.

Clicking on the + signs, start with HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
Under that is "Software" - click the +
Under that is "Microsoft" - Click the +
Under that is "Windows" - Click the +
Under that is "Current Version" - click the +
Under that is "Run"....
Click right on the word Run (not on the +)
On the right hand side of the Registry windows you should see all the items being loaded at bootup. Should look that same as the list of items in msconfig.
Right click on any of the items that you do not want load, and delete them

When done, close the registry window and you are done
Reboot the PC and (if you did everything right) none of the items will load. They will also be gone if you check the msconfig.

For the best answers, search on this site https://shorturl.im/awRqo

1.Select Run from start menu 2.Enter "regedit"(without quotes) in the run and press enter 3.Now goto HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SOFTWARES -> MICROSOFT ->WINDOWS -> CURRENTVERSION -> RUN . Now That page conatins the startup entries of your computer. Delete the things you wanted. REMEMBER You are dealing with Registry so take a backup before doing anything. OR Look for application CCleaner. Which is freeware and can delete statrup entries

That is one of the HIVE keys of the registry and you SHOULDN'T meddle with it unless you know what you are doing.

To control what starts up with Windows I suggest you use a free start up manager like Start Up Inspector; just check or uncheck the boxes of the programmes
http://www.snapfiles.com/reviews/Startup_Inspector/startupinspector.html

in addition, this tool has a searchable online database to answer your queries concerning start up entries.

its part of the windows registry.....be VERY careful what you do in the registry....it basically controls what your pc does....if you delete or change something it can totally mess up your system...if you do change the registry make sure to create a backup or snapshot so you can undo it if you mess up...
