I think if you are looking at cricket since the first class game started then I think it is Jack Hobbs with over 60,000 runs. W G Grace is probably also in the running!!!
My great grandfather played for Sussex around 1900 and holds the Sussex best bowling figures 10-48. He got Grace out 4 times in his career.
Whilst there was not One Day cricket they played a lot more cricket in those days and as the fielding was poor there were often very high scores each day. Class batsmen always scored heavily. It was not uncommon for a batsman to score 3000 runs in the County cricket season. Today they struggle to get 1500 runs. They also had longer careers.
