Most are trained for the mission.

For a long time space travel was done only by armed force personal in leading countries as they could adapt to the training with ease and funding came through the defence budget.

With the break up of USSR people started going in to space as tourist. They do need to take some training. They are charged about 20 million USA dollars by Russian. At this time only Russia is taking passengers, USA has a program also for non USA citizens as courtesy to various countries and they are also trained in the tasks and go as crew members. Some Indians have had opportunities to go on a mission with Russians and some have travel with the Americans.

At this time and for time to come majority of Astronauts will be, Pilots, Scientist, Engineers as the mission gets broader and broader they will need other disciplines say lawyers, accountants, teachers, Astronomers.........

By the way once you have been in to the space you are an Astronaut. While in training you are in training to be an Astronaut.

There is a private company formed specialy for tourism and they will take the people up to the space. But for time to come all will have some task to perform while in space and all will have to be very fit to travel, and be able to take Gravitational forces during take of and landings.

Ist requirement....you can't go in the bathroom more than once a week. and No showers...only sponge washing during the trip....these are the 2 first Tests you have to pass before the exercises will continue. Then you have to take the survival course...in case you run out of food in space...you will learn how to eat space warms....and how to eat space garbage left behind from previous in space astronauts

Russia will launch you into space if you are filthy rich. Of course you are going to have be trained in space flight for a couple weeks before you go. If you really want to be an astronaut, join the airforce and become a really really good pilot.

You must have huge amount of money so that you can buy a ticket to space travel. All the required training will be given by the concerned space agency(as was done case of Tito and other space tourists). And yes, you must be physically fit to endure effects four to five 'g' during liftoff.

NASA does not like to have non-astronaut visiters in space due to the risks of harm/damage to crews/vehicles.

Russia will launch you if you have the money.

I don't know about the European Space Agency or China or Japan....

Requirment:

Money in bank > £20 million

But off course you would be trained in zero gravity etc or you wouldn't have any chance in space
