As an actual answer to this question, I would expect the Yanks to make a play for Zito, but I don't think he'll end up there. They might also take a shot at Garcia from the White Sox.

TO all the Boston fans out there, don't fret, even though you might get this great japanese pitcher, you'll still find a way to loose.

Yankees really seemed lost so far this offseason
being outbid for the best pitcher on the market is really unacceptable by yankee spending standards

The rotation only has 3 real startes in Wang, Mussina and Johnson. Need 2-3 more quality arms, and it doesn't seem like the yankees are making any pushes for zito or schidmit

They are looking at the likes of randy wolf and gil meche, more bargain based ones

What great starting pitchers have they gotten recently during the off season to boost their staff? The washed up Randy Johnson?? The great Jared Wright?? Come on!! It isn't Yankee pitching that makes the Red Sox look sad. It is the injuries to key players.

Chow!!

I'm sure Brian Cashman will come up with some decent trades as well as exploring the free agency list. However with the lineup we have, most opposing pitchers will play hell trying to keep the Yankees off the board. With Boston just spending money they didn't have on this Japanese pitcher, they won't be able to pick up help in other areas. We've already won the division. We just need to set up our pitching rotation for the playoffs.

Yankees don't need to do anything to make the Sox look sad. Sox take care of that all by themselves.

There's talk that the Yankes are targeting Dontrelle Willis of the Marlins. They now have some young pitchers and Melky as bait. I would expect him to be the Man next year.

Looks like the Red Sox have Matsuzaka from Japan so looks like the yanks will probably lose early in the playoffs. AGAIN.
