during the dark ages muslims kept the knowledge of the greeks when it had been lost to the europeans.

During the Islamic Golden Age (750 - 1400) philosophers, scientists and engineers of the Islamic world contributed enormously to technology, both by preserving and building upon earlier traditions and by adding their own inventions and innovations. Scientific and intellectual achievements blossomed in the Golden age, and passed on to Europe to be expanded upon in the Renaissance.

Islamic governments inherited "the knowledge and skills of the ancient Middle East, of Greece, of Persia and of India. They added new and important innovations from outside, such as positional numbering from Ancient India," as Bernard Lewis writes in What Went Wrong?

In the course of the 11th century, Islam's scientific knowledge began to reach Western Europe. The astrolabe, invented in classical times, was reintroduced to Europe and the works of Euclid and Archimedes, lost in the West, were translated from Arabic to Latin in Spain. The modern Hindu-Arabic numerals, including a notation for zero, was developed by Hindu mathematicians in the fifth and sixth centuries. Muslim mathematicians learned of it in the seventh century and added a notation for decimal factions in the ninth and tenth centuries

Islam played a HUGE role in mathematics, arts and equality for all civilizations.

Today, many non-muslims feel as if women are abused in Islam. Looking from the outside in, without knowledge of much, that is what they conclude. That's not the case. In the olden pre-Islamic days, women were buried alive, and killed and tortured. Islam raised their status completly and the status of Women was brought to EQUAL a man. In fact, some after in depth learning believe women have more rights. Islam has put rules in place that ALL ARE EQUAL in sight of God, regardless of wealth, color, race, etc. Also, to give charity to the poor, help the needy, be kind to all humans and animals, all have been put in place.

Islam is known as not only a religion, but 'way of life'.

As far as learning goes, Keith Devlin from Stanford Univ. says this:
"Today, mention of the word Islam conjurs up images of fanatical terrorists flying jet airplanes full of people into buildings full of even more people, all in the name, they say, of their god. In an equally sad vein, the word Baghdad brings to mind the unscrupulous and decidedly evil dictator Saddam Hussein. Both images are as unrepresentative as they are understandable, a sad reflection on the ease with which a handful of crazed fanatics, lacking the ability or the wit to bring about change by peaceful means, can hijack not just a plane or a country but an entire cultural heritage and its associated religion. For those of us in mathematics, and by extension all scientists and engineers, the sadness is even greater. For the culture that these fanatics claim to represent when they set about trying to destroy the modern world of science and technology was in fact the cradle in which that tradition was nurtured. As mathematicians, we are all children of Islam."

Of all the Islamic visual arts, calligraphy has been most highly regarded as a fine art by Muslims. The Arabic alphabet in various scripts, generally in combination with arabesque ornament, became the most prized decoration for architecture and other functional works, such as furniture, textiles, and vessels. Indeed, with the exception of poets and calligraphers, Muslims have never looked to artists for special insights or meanings. They have regarded the arts primarily as the decorative arts, based greatly upon the study of mathematics, and involving intricately geometric designs.

don't comprehend approximately hyperlinks, yet i will supply you what i've got have been given------------- Islam is the reason we are as some distance progressed as we are in medical wisdom, literature, shape, and arithmetic. After the autumn of Rome, Classical wisdom, that of the Greeks and all the early center jap societies, became misplaced. The barbarian tribes that sacked Rome have been close by to reducing-component France, Germany, and considerable Europe. They completely lacked innovative and prescient which blanketed the arts and Sciences of immediately. right here and there, the place Christianity had penetrated in those first 4 centuries of the present era, there have been tiny outposts the place some remoted communities tried to maintain wisdom. those have been the monasteries, the place scribes laboriously copied texts because of the fact they believed that they may be comprehended back sometime of their destiny. in assessment, the Moslems, in a rather good variety of those aspects of wisdom, no longer in effortless terms had cultural possession of wisdom by utilising rote, additionally they progressed wisdom-------thinkers in early Islam have been particularly respected and well-liked. (Mohammed himself became what we'd call immediately a logician). The society of Europe and Western Asia became no adventure for the ability of Islam the place it would desire to attain, in Spain and Turkey. The Moors in Spain, in specific, have been the reason that Spain and it relatively is neighbor Portugal have been some distance ahead of something of Europe in exploring and exploiting new lands. As reducing-component civilization is of ecu or West Asian roots, the linked fee of Islam in retaining wisdom only can not be overstated.

ok, first, the correct answer is A LOT!!! don't believe any of the answers saying it didn't. the muslims in spain helped preserve the knowledge during the Dark Ages when literacy was at an all time low (thanks in part to the Catholic church basically banning anything that went against their doctrines). not only did they preserve the writings, but they translated them into other languages so that other ppl could read them, as well as wrote additions and footnotes to the knowledge saved.
