no its a touchback

to get 3 pts for a field goal, the ball needs to be kicked off the ground a la field goal try or drop kick

Nope its just a touch back. Other team gets it on their 20 yard line.
To get three points the other team has to kick a field goal. This is when the ball is snapped to a holder who places the ball down on the ground for the field goal kicker to kick it.
When its a punt the ball is hicked directly to the punter who kicks the ball without placing the ball on the ground

It can be... if the ball hits the ground first. If the punter were to fumble, pick it up and boot it, and it went through the uprights, I believe it's a field goal. Or, if he dropkicked it, that'd be fine too.

If he just catches it clean and sends it off, it's a touchback.

No. Only field goals that are placed or dropkicked on their long axis count as 3 points. The others are touchbacks.

no you dont get 3 points the opponents just get to start further down the field than intended like i believe they would start at the 25 yard line

no it's a touchback because they are punting and are not lined up for a fieldgoal attempt
