It doesn't happen very often, and when it does, it's usually because the two teams are in the same conference, as OSU and Michigan. It did happen once already this season though with OSU #1, at Texas #2. Most teams are afraid to schedule games like this outside of their conference, as they are fearful they might lose and be out of contention for the National Championship. As Ohio State and Texas have both shown though, you get a lot of respect if you can schedule a big game like that and win. Even if you lose you still will get more respect in the polls. Texas managed to be in the top-5 and still had hopes of playing in the BCS championship until they lost again. Personally, I'd prefer to see more of this kind of scheduling. That way there are more quality games. Who wants to see Ohio State play Northern Illinois, or Texas play the University of North Texas?

Ohio State played #2 at the time Texas, and we put a butt whooping on Texas, and the same thing is going to happen to #2 Michigan. It's not often that a #1 plays a #2 team twice in 1 season, but this is not the 1st time it has happened

This will be the 38th meeting between the top two teams in the AP poll since its inception in 1936. The No. 1 team holds a 22-13-2 edge in those games.
This will be the third time Michigan plays in a matchup of the top two teams in the country. U-M lost at home to top-ranked Notre Dame in 1943 (35-12) and at No. 1 Iowa in 1985 (12-10).

It's infrequent, but this will be the second time this season it's happened, as OSU and Texas were 1 and 2 when they met in September.

It happens occassionally, but usually not this late in the season. Most games after the first few weeks are conference games, and rarely does a conference have two top 5 teams, let alone #1 and #2 who have not already faced each other.

it particularly is fantastically no longer likely, even with the indisputable fact that it has handed off in the previous in "opposite order". The 1955 Gator Bowl featured 2 SEC communities, Vanderbilt and Auburn, with Vandy prevailing 25-12. those comparable 2 communities confronted one yet another in the season opener for the two colleges in 1956.
