Well we can get technical and start teaching you about states and stuff but I can also guess that you are like many people in the Western Hemisphere who know "America" as North America and South America. North America has 3 countries. Canada, United States and Mexico. South America has many countries and I am sorry to say that I do not know what they all are. Some are Brazil, Argentina, Chile, etc.

We are The United States of America. We have 50 states and 1 President. If you are asking because you see how divided we are on the issues, pay attention, because for the most part we love each other, there may be some who really hate for the sake of hate but Americans are the best people in the world.

America is a continent not a country. It's the whole land mass made up by North America, Central America and South America.

There's a very good book that will answer this question, virtually in it's entirety. It's called an ATLAS. You look up the page that has: The United States of America at the top and count up the countries (they're usually in different pretty colours, so it's quite easy to do). For the President part, go and buy a newspaper, doesn't matter which one because he's plastered all over it.
