I've been married for 34 years and overall, it's been great.
I think it's important to know someone before you marry them. I dated my husband for over 4 years before we married so I knew what kind of person he was.
It's important to have a relationship built on love and respect. Communication is a big part of any relationship and I think it helps if you have a good sense of "humor"!
Maintaining a good marriage takes commitment, hard work and you need to be able to "negotiate". The benefits to both partners (and your family) are priceless. Having that "safe place" in the world is the best feeling you can have!
Just my opinion, I'm sure everyone has their own. Good luck.

1yr and a half I'am remarried and this one is much better we still have disagreement but I have learned how to communicate without screaming. He is very quiet and I 'am the opposite he loves that I'am funny and out spoken and loves the Lord. He is a praying person I think that helps us a lot. He's a very laid back and very antsy. We went through some rough patches but everyday is a learning process full of understanding the person, trusting, compromising, listening being quiet, thinking of the good over the bad. Accepting the things you don't understand. Everybody have good and bad days when your spouse have had a crumy day don't make it worst put the bad stuff you have to tellthem on hold it can wait. Be considerated. Goldren rule Do unto other as you would have them do unto you. Not evil for evil God bless you

Well, I guess, I've been marred for 4.5 years, I've been with my husband for 8.5 years. All is pretty good. Of course, we have some rough spots, but we've worked it out. It takes alot of time, effort, and commitment to make it work. It is definatly not one sided thing. It takes the two of you working together to make it happen.
