Not just questions that I have answered. But I have read some questions where someone had provided the correct answer so I did not answer. Are people really looking for answers or opinions?

Answers are chosen, usually, by the asker; if not, the voters choose. Perhaps the asker and/or voters didn't know what was the correct answer, so they just chose the one they liked best... or the one whose picture was the cutest, or whatever.

Sometimes I'm amazed that mine gets picked for best when I scroll down and read the other answers and several are better than mine. I think they're looking for opinions. I think I do too.

Most questions in P&S don't have 1 given answer.

I think people are looking for assurance that they're doing the right thing, and they tend to pick the answer who best agrees with them.

Sometimes there's no telling why a best answer is such. I've gotten best answer and thought, "Really?".
