Concerned more with ones own wants, needs and desires than those of others.
Not a bad thing if taken in the right amount. We all need to be selfish to a degree.

The word "selfish" is a mean egocentric word. And "selfish" is also opposite to "sharing". If you are a selfish person, you should try to be a sharing person.

I think selfish is what my son is. He has two daughters and all he keeps telling them is what he whats from them. He won't even talk to one of his daughters because she refuses to go to college and this is what he wants for her. I had two girls too and I never thought of what I wanted for them. I let them decide and they are very happy today with good husbands and good jobs. My son is very controlling to a point where he is selfish.

you get 'self-ish'which could be someone who is kind and thoughtful but won't go out of their way, and then just selfish which is someone who blatantly doesn't consider the effects of actions on others.

To me it means thinking of only one's needs and desires and overlooking others. Being consumed with self that it ruins relationships with others, a lack of empathy.

People who only think of themselves and never of others. Who think they are always right and everyone has to do whatever they say, because they aren't bothered by anyone else's feelings.
