Yeah why would you spend all that money if you ONLY have a chance but it might be ok for them they are trying to become a power house again so you got to do what you got to:)

The Red Sox will cash in from any merchandising that comes from an international star. And adding the far east fans to the BoSox nation would generate more revenue. Ideally, in the long run it would far exceed the 50mil that they're shelling out now.

I'm just surprised the Seattle Mariners opted out so quick in the bidding war. They may be satisfied with the far east players that have currently, i.e. Johjima, Ichiro.

If they don't sign him, they get the money back.

Theo Epstein is no fool. Young, fastball pitchers are becoming rarer and rarer. There aren't many free agent sin the market at least for the next 2-3 years. Boston is badly in need of pitching - starting and relief. I believe if they can sign him without breaking the bank it would be great. 5-6 year deal would be the best.

Can the Red Sox keep up with GEORGE?? It won`t work. After this guy goes belly up the Sox will not sign any big salary players for a long time.

I think he is overrated, however I wouldn't suprized if he shuts me up by the end of the season, next year.... It is funny to see how much money one team is committed to spending for one player that hasn't played a game in the MLB level. Look what happen to Kaz Matsui went burst to New York and he recovered mildy in Colorado... however let's see what happens....
