It seems like to me the 2000s have been the worst decade for music since the 1930s. The best decades were probably the 1940s, the 1950s, and the 1980s. However, no decade is without good music, and the 2000s have had its share. It just seems there hasn't been any really new, refreshing style like there has been in the past decades. I don't know what defines this decade musically.

absolutely not. but good music isnt just going to slap you in the face whenever you turn on your tv or radio, more or less like it did 10 years ago. the fact of the matter is that professional (sounding at least) recording gear has come down so much in price even over the last decade that now anyone with a laptop and willpower can create professional-quality music. which means that the overall volume of musical output has dramatically increased. there is more good music being created and recorded professionally now than ever before. but along with this you have a lot of **** you have to dredge through, which is, pessimistically speaking, awful, but optimistically, only makes it that much more satisfying when you finally find what it is you were looking for.
if you judge the current state of art (of any form) with what's playing on the radio and tv, then you've grossly underestimated the full breadth of what is being created now. it's pretty amazing. here's some sites with some interesting new music. go!

Well, I don't think there is ever going to be a deffinete answer, being quite young 10 years ago myself.. I cant personaly judge the exsperience. I do enjoy some music from 10+ years ago, but then again I do enjoy some now. So to me its a 50-50.

Yeah some of it was. I also think alot of the music from 20 years ago was really good.

Not 10 years ago. Try 20-30 years ago, when music had a meaning, the words meant something ! Peanut butter jelly time, please, if you can call that music, I'll be afraid to hear what's coming in the next 10 years.

Need to go back farther than 10 years sweetie! Try 20 plus years. 50's 60's 70's and some 80's.Some 40's too. The stuff, at least 80% of it, today really stinks and its mostly remakes of old songs that they just massacre!

Everything changes over time and goes through periods (rock music) birth (50s), growth (60s), foot finding(70s), maturation(80s), waining (90s), and death and dying (late 90s - now)

We're all hoping for some kind of paradym shift or renewal, to deliver us from what we have going on now. Until then, I find myself hording older music I listened to and exploring some of what was going on back then that I missed, like blues and jazz.

1996 was the last year of the alternative movement. alot of those great early 90's bands were breaking up and the new bands were less than impressive.
2006 we have a great detroit music revival goin on. bands like
the white stripes, raconteurs, brendan benson, greenhornes, blanche..., ssm, the sights, pas/cal, dirtbombs, detroit cobras, outrageous cherry, volebeats, cyril lords, and somany great great bands from the area. i couldn't pick anyother time to be a music fan in my life.

i think so. as time passes it seems the quality of music has gone down because the focus of the industry has gone towards increasing profit instead of quality music. There are still quality acts out there they arent getting the promotion they should.
with industries such as that it seems the more money it makes the worse it is.

I liked it better back then. But maybe thats just cause I am 'growing up'. I can't get into the EMO and Rap/R&B crap that is out now. Give me some 90's grunge or alternative any day!
