There are a number of reasons - and the answer is rather complex. U.N. peacekeepers are often ineffective. They wind up being more "truce observers" than peacekeepers. They are reluctant to do any interdiction of any kind. In fact, they have been 100% ineffective even in Lebanon. Hizbollah has been re-arming unabated.

The reaon that they are not requested for Gaza and/or the West Bank includes the fact that the Palestinians do not yet have a recognized independent state. So there is no effective government there to be a party to such an agreement. Furthermore, as wild as things were in South Lebanon prior to and during this past summer, the terrorism and lawlessness of Gaza and the West Bank is - quite literally - hunderds of times worse. It is not the border that is at issue as they are lobbing Kassam rockets from all over Gaza. How would a U.N. force patrol ALL of Gaza and the West Bank? Even Israel is NO LONGER there.

Furthermore it would be so risky for the U.N. troops that no country would volunteer its soldiers for such a task.

It is not that Israel and the U.S. don't want peace in the mid-east. They do. But U.N. forces is not a practical solution.

1. The so-called UN is as corrupt as any world government, therefore it is illogical to consider there help with such a matter.

2. The USA should not be acting as the world police.

3. Until the Middle Eastern countries step out of their mass murdering 7th century Islam must dominate the world culture, and strive to become civilized freedom oriented nations, peace will only be a meaningless word.

You may recall four UN peacekeepers were killed in July by Israeli artillery on the Lebanese border so being in this situation is highly dangerous for the UN soldiers. I think the truth is they are not wanted because the Arabs see them as agents of America and the Israelis see the as being pro Arab. Politics is a dirty game so who knows what the the people involved really want.

Because the UN is a useless organization. The United Nations! Right. More like the Useless Nations.
To hell with the UN. They're infringing on our national sovereignty and they make us look like idiots while they allow Chavez and other enemies of the peace to do what they do.

Because they are scared that some truths will come out that I am sure the USA don't want, and it is pretty common knowledge that Israel are not the champions of the world in human rights, I am not siding up with Hamas or Muslim extremists but Palestine belongs to the Palestinians Jew or Muslim

Because the UN 'peacekeepers' have, in the past, assisted terrorists in attacking Israel.

That's a pretty good reason, no?
