Wow posts from 9 years back and still haven't had a best answer. Hispanics are latinos since they follow latin based culture, but not all latinos are hispanic as latino includes anyone who speaks a romance based language, including, spanish, french, castonian, catalan, italian, romanian, portguese, etc. Hispanic is from spain.

Hispanic refers to anyone that is born in a country where Spanish is its official language, regardless of race or ethnicity. Such as people from Spain, Mexico, Peru, El Salvador, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Colombia, etc.
Latino refers to anyone that is born in a country where a Latin based language is its official language (Spanish, French, Italian, Romanian, Portuguese, etc.) regardless of race or ethnicity. Such as people from Spain, Mexico, Italy, Portugal, Brazil, Romania, France, etc.
So all Hispanics are Latino, but not all Latinos are Hispanic.

In United States, which everything is black and white, they don't realize that the term Latin American comes from the word Latin that means, languages that are shape after the tongue of the Roman Empire, which has its origin in the Lazio or Lazzio region in Italy, where Roman is placed, as Tuscany for Florence, Lombardy for Milan, Veneto for Venice, etc. Ethomologically, Italians, French, Hispanics, Portuguese (Brazilians), are Latinos. Hispanics are those who are descendants from HIspania (Spain), like Spaniards and Hispanoamericans. Thank you Eilishaa for your explanation.

I will make this easy for you.
Africans are from Africa.
Mexicans are mostly Indigenous or Amerindian and from the Americas. Look up Mexica, Aztecs, Mayans, Meso America. Uto Aztecan.
Hispanics are from Spain.
Latins are from Italy or Southern Europe. Italy, Spain, Portugal, France are the main groups. You can also add Romanians.
Mulattoes are Afro Hispanics or Afro Latinos
Mestizos are Amer Hispanics or Amer Latinos
Hispanic and Latino/a are pan ethnic terms. Used for commercialism and non specific.
Culturally anyone can be a Hispanic or Latino if they follow Latin or Hispanic culture.
Mexico follows more a mix culture which combines Pre Hispanic Messo American/Native America culture mixed with Hispanic/Latino culture.
Example Los dias de los Muertos Pre Hispanic mixed with All Saints and All Souls day Hispanic. Roman Catholic or Latin culture.
Corn Tortilla or Maize Pre Hispanic and Flour Tortilla is hybrid Flour coming from Europe and using same Messo American technique to make corn tortillas.
Caribbean Dominican Republic, Cuba and Puerto Rico
Afro Hispanic or Afro Latino culture.
Example Salsa, Merengue Bomba, African dance mixed with Spanish lyrics and instuments like guitar and African Drums.
Food. Example Mofongo which has clear roots in West Africa Fufu
Latinos come from Southern Europe a place called Latium now Latina Italy in the Lazio area. Latins are Italians, Spanish, French, Portuguese and Romanians.
There can be some argument that they are culturally Hispanic/Latino but they are not ethnically. Also multiracial and multi-ethnic can cry all they want they are only partially Latino and not fully Latino so they would be Afro Latinos or Mulattoes, Asiatic Latinos or Amerindian/Latinos Mestizos. A lot of times if it is not visibly noticeable that you have African or Asian or Amerindian then people won't care. However if you look like an African, or an Asian or a full Indigenous person then it is hard to say you are really Latino.
One of the lies that has been said is that a Latino can be African,Amerindian Asian but if they are African and Asian then that is what they are and they are not Latin because Latinos originally come from Southern Europe.
It is a half truth in a way and not completely true but not completely false because Africans, Amerindian and Asians can learn to speak Spanish, or a Romance language and being culturally Latino. The thing is that in the Caribbean a lot of the Culture is not just Spanish/Latin but also West African and in countries like Mexico it is heavily influenced by Amerindians.
how it gets more complicated. When a person mixes with a Latin a person of Southern European Origin where it be Italian, Spanish or Portuguese you then got a Mestizo Amerindian Spanish hybrid person which is Amerindian Latino so they are partially Latino but not fully ethnically Latino like a Italian or Spanish or Portuguese or French person.
When you have an African and Spanish/ Southern European mix you get a Mulatto which again they can be latin partially but are really Afro Hispanics if there parents came from Spain or they can be Afro Latino if they have a parent or some linage from Southern Europe.
I will give you 2 more examples. Amir Khan is a British National but he is ethnically Pakistani and Lennox Lewis is a British National but he is ethnically Jamaican/West African really as opposed to an ethnically English person who is really ethnically English like Prince William and Harry.

Hispanic means anyone from a Spanish speak country, Latino... well... the Latin language orginated from Italy. I do not know why "hispanics" call themselves Latino when it is mainly italian and Latin is a dead language.
But get one thing straight... Hispanic and Latino IS NOT A RACE. Anyone can be Hispanic, as I already explained. And Latin is a language, NOT a race. Hispanic can refer to the culture of people from different parts of the world that speak Spanish. There are black Hispanics, Asian Hispanics, but Hispanic is just NOT a race nor is Latino.
