How about procuring training VCR or DVD films on astronauts. One training viewing is worth one thousand words.

Lively bunch aren't they? I teach Cub Scouts -- third grade. You've got to keep their interest level up. you could start by telling about Verner von Braun and his work here in the U.S., about Sam Sheppard, Jim Lovell, David White, Gus Grissom, John Glenn and Neil Armstrong Show them a short clip of the Apollo moon landings. Tie in the fact that all of these astronauts are extremely well educated people with years of school under their belts. Encourage the kids to stay in school. have them imagine what it must be like to hop around in a gravity free space environment. Have them eat freeze dried foods like ice cream. Explaining that water weighs a lot and weight when launching is everything. Have an IMAX theater near by? See if they'd be willing to show a movie there and put in to take a field trip.
Best of luck!

movies are great! they keep the kids interested (what kid doesnt like movies?). also i like the idea of eating ice cream - kids would totally go for that one! also do some fun project, like draw pictures, have them build a *space craft* out of styraphom and other materials, etc. something active that doesnt include droning on and on and includes hands on
