Well it simply comes down to politics and money
Record labels dish out alot of money to radio stations to have certain artist(s) in heavy rotation. The idea behind it (fr labels stand point) is, if the single does well then there is potential for the whole album to sale as well. Then secondary, listeners call in and request artist and song play.

However it creates a problem bcuz we listeners get very sick of hearing the same 5 artists every 25mins. Also many artist dont have a chance in hell of selling records simply becuz they arent getting alot of exposure. Especially artists on labels where the record execs are releasing THEIR OWN albums (def jam: Jayz & bad boy: P diddy)

Just think if labels pay stations to promote songs/albums...whose album do u think Jayz is gonna promote, shereefa's or his own???? (just examples im giving) jay z's new album just came out yesterday...shereefa's dropped 2 or 3wks ago...now where do you think the promoting dollars are going? Politics of the biz.

But it really seems to me most labels are too stupid to promote more than 1 act at a time...which is another reason overall album sales drop each yr...also illegal downloads contribute.

*sigh* sorry i got so long winded...i work in the biz, so i cant help but run off at the mouth. =}

I completely agree! It's irritating as heck! I have some songs I really like and they play them to death until I can't stand it anymore. arrggh! I love the Frey but for God's sake give it a rest! Do radio stations have a 15 song rotation or something!??!!

The reason they do that is because what you listen to before the 8pm watershed is called a "Playlisted" show, basically, from 12 midnight until 8pm, you have to listen to what the station plays, anything they play which is not requested can be considered a breech of contract and broadcasting regulations, only after 8pm can they play things with language that would otherwise be deemed unsuitable for daytime listening. after 8pm, you get what is known as a "Specialist show"

They ain't stupid but they think that we are.

I agree with you our local radio is an insult to our city.

But as long as people keep listening and they make money they will keep churning out the same old bland rubbish.

Try listening to Radio 2 they seem to treat their listeners with a bit of respect.

music today is a load of shite anyway. i don't listen to the radio that much nowdays, as i am more of a retro music fan and prefer to listen to songs from the 70s 80s and 90s on my mp3 player. best if you purchase yourself an mp3/ipod or whatever, download limewire for free and download the classic tracks that you like.

I know exactly what you mean!

I start off liking the songs and after a couple of days they just do me head in!

I think they are being paid to play them by the record companies.

By the way, welcome to Middle Age!
