hey honey, I'm in the same boat right now. I'm severely anemic, so I'm on three 20mg iron pills a day.
What I do is drink an 8-ounce glass of prune juice before bed. It's a laxative, but it doesn't cause cramping or anything. And it has the most iron out of any juice, so you'll add a little to your iron intake as well as regulating yourself out! If you're really blocked up, you may want to drink some in the morning, too.

When I was pregnant, I needed to take in alot of iron. Being to that I was anemic. They made me real sick, and constipated me as well. I had to eat alot of fiber, and green vegetables. And drink alot of water. This helps loosen the bowels and cleans us out. The doctor also gave me a pill to help me go. Maybe just cut back on the iron pill, for awhile. But tell your doctor what is happening to you. They can help.

You can get vegetable based iron supplement at a health food store. They are better assimilated by the body and won't make you constipated. I take one called Gentle Iron by Solgar.

Cut back! When starting iron therapy, it's best to start with just one pill a day for a week or so, then go up to 2 a day for another week, etc. This will allow your body to get used to them and you won't get so sick to your stomach. A stool softener will be helpful if you still have constipation.

eat more dates , raisins and figs. , more beetroot. They have high iron content. If you are taking iron pills, and are concerned about constipation, eat a high fibre diet, lats of whole grain, fruits, veggies, lentils,.. and drink atleast 8 tall glasses of water everyday.
