If there are ruts from the tires you have to loosen up that soil first. It will be compacted there. Then level out the damage with some good topsoil. I don't know where you are but if you get cold winters it's too late for grass to germinate this year. I suggest putting down some straw just to protect the area you prepared. Then on a warm day in Feb or March you can rake off the straw, break up the soil a little and put down some seed and starter fertilizer. The rake the straw back over the area. When the temp is right it will germinate,

Depending on the type of damage, there could be a couple of different fixes. I assume that a truck left ruts???

If so, rake out the high spots and fill the low ones with topsoil. You could buy bags of soil at a home center. Spread and tamp the soil down lightly and sow some grass seed. There are types of grass seed that germinate quickly- get some of that and sow it over the disturbed soil. Additionally, sow some more permanent seed type that will be compatible with your existing grass. There are sun and shade types- use what's appropriate for your lawn.

Use a light mulch of straw (or a little bit of potting soil, no more than a 1/2 inch deep) over the areas until the grass comes up. Keep the area moist until the grass fills back in. It might be a good idea to use a little starter fertilizer to give your new grass the best start.

Depending on your climate, it may be late in the year to get grass to germinate. if so, start early in the spring on your repair.

Good luck!

If, it made ruts, you will need to build this back up even with the area around it. I use a potting soil if it not large or dirt from a inconspicuous place. It may need to be mounded at first and allowed to settle, then even it on down with a garden rake. Depending on the type of grass you have. You can seed it or allow runners over time to do their thing or transfer runners to speed things up. With winter coming on, this a good time, you can let the mound settle and then next spring do what needed. True, we talk an amount of time and it not happen in one day, but, the results should be perfect and no one ever know.

I had this problem when I was installing a basketball court in my back yard. The vehicle caused tire marks throughout the lawn and took years to go away. I would suggest filling in the tracks with topsoil, water and wait a few weeks for the soil to settle. When it stays the same height as your present dirt, plant new grass seed, water it every day till it starts growing and you should be fine.

Hopefully they're bonded and insured. You should take pictures and document that their equipment caused the damage then inform them that they should pay to have the damage repaired. Unless there was some fine print on the contract you signed, you should be able to make them pay. Good luck.
