No Great Depression. Our Great War's a spiritual war... our Great Depression is our lives. We've all been raised on television to believe that one day we'd all be millionaires, and movie gods, and rock stars. But we won't. And we're slowly learning that fact.

Your comment does seem true on the surface, however I would argue that most names to a generation (their purpose per se) are labeled after the occurrences for which they are known. We cannot expect to achieve a label by giving it to ourselves but we should aspire and have one given to us for our accomplishments. I would say further that using war as a point of reference is a sad way of looking at things.

Some suggestions that I would make would be Post Cold War generation or the Technology Generation. These are both points that we have been part of (depending on your age).

I think Fight Club put into words a lot of things I've been feeling.

That particular quote sums up a lot things in a concise way: the feelings of a recessive generation, the spiritual alienation of the "culture wars", the disillusionment of a generation unwilling to be a generation on the same terms that the Boomers wasted. We find the American Dream has kind of turned us into a national nightmare.

i think you could generalize that statement to apply to any generation. the hope that we could one day be a millionare, a movie god, or a rock star, helps perpetuate ambition. without hope we would have no drive to exist.

Maybe self-improvement isn't the answer.... Maybe self-destruction is the answer.
