Can't open the windows? I know, the smells sticks to furniture.

I simmer a pot with cinnamon sticks, cloves, lemon and orange peel on the stove. If I could strain the stuff well enough it could be sprayed around the house, but it clogs the sprayer.

My mother would moisten cottonballs with cologne and put them on the outflow port of the vacuum (canister) and vacuum the house.

I have a Rainbow water vacuum and can put a drop or two of PineSol or other smelly stuff and just leave the vacuum run for awhile (I guess I should also vacuum the house too) .

In addition to cooking with a lot of garlic too (I'm Greek) I also have 5 big hairy smelly dogs. I understand your problem.

Putting stuff into the air is just covering the problem. My mother used say she didn't want to put flowers on dead fish, she wanted to get rid of the dead fish.

There is one good spray which works well with odors, it's called OUST. Available most everywhere.

As for home remedies, I usually just light a candle or two. I'm not sure of the science of it, but the burning wax/parafin somehow either pulls the odor particles out of the air, or chases them away somehow. But I do know it works.

Works great for smokers too. (There are special Smoker's candles which work on smoke and also work on smells and odors. You can get them at Walmart or any quality Smokeshop.)

I sprinkle baking soda on the carpets before I go to bed and vacuum it up the next day. If you want to get fancy go to Aromaweb and look in the recipe box. They have a great recipe for carpet freshener made with essential oils. It works better that commercial ones because the scent is natural.
Febreeze works too...but it makes me sneeze.

I use the vents over the stove. Also, diluted Lysol, vinegar, and baking soda are great for dealing with odors.

Good luck!

Try _Odo Ban_. It is sold at Wal-Mart.
This is amazing stuff.
