Every First Direct customer needs to close their account now or this could affect all of us.
First Direct are testing the water with this for all the banks, if all the customers just go along with it there will be charges on the way for all of us.
If every bank starts going down this road, all you First Direct customers will have no where to go.
You must act now for the benefit of us all.

I've been with First Direct since 1991 and have always been very satisfied with the service I've received. So much so that I've remained a loyal customer even when other banks have been offering quite attractive incentives.
Now, however, I am absolutely furious. Having deposited in excess of £1500 monthly for years, I've recently started maternity leave and when I return to work my income will halve! This means that my loyalty will be repaid with a £10 monthly charge? I think not. They can stick their account where the sun don't shine - I'll take my business elsewhere.

First Direct, I believe is part of HSBC
HSBC made over £8.000.000.000 profit last year How much more do the f"cking greedy bastards want.
You can bet your life that the rest of them are waiting to see what happens.
If you are rich, not a problem. If you are a normal working person who lives month to month, then you will be targeted.
Now that b"stard Blair has changed the way pensioners are paid, it means they have to have a bank a/c and many of them will find it too confusing to change banks or take out a credit card.
What we should do, is, everybody apply for a credit card, as soon as it arrives, cut it up and throw it away.
The bank will have the added expence of issuing the card, then sending a monthly statement. With no profit from extortionate interest charges, they will soon be out of pocket.
I bet the employee who suggested this scheme will get a good Christmas bonus.
Why is it that we have to pay, pay, pay all the fennin time?

I think everyone has answered this question for me.
But I will say this, you shouldn't have to take out a credit card to avoid paying a fee. Besides how safe is having a credit card these days, regardless of whether you use it or not.
Are they going to compensate the customer if their details are cloned and used? What they are doing is down right diabolical. And it's only a matter of time before other banks follow suit.

And I wonder how long it takes for their customers to move elsewhere? The thing is they'll hope people with less than the £1500 will be too apathetic to move banks or take out a credit card with them so they'll make loads of money from them from the fee,or interest rates from the credit card. Another example of robbing the poor to pay the rich!

Well well well. I have an account and I phoned them up, apparently it is aimed at people who do not uise their accounts but still have them open with no money in them and no intention of putting money in them. They say it is to save money as these accounts cost about £150 a year to keep open. Statements cheqe books cards etc.
Mmmmm we shall see.

Just saw this on the news.If you open a savings account with them or get one of their credit cards you will not have to pay these charges. You won't even have to use the credit card and you'll only have to keep £1 in the savings account.
